Why Take Action When You Can Delay? Here’s Why

Here is the deal with our climate. We have 6 to 10 years to get our act together and drastically bring greenhouse gas levels down. That’s the only way we might still keep global warming below an average of 1.5 degrees. You don’t need to look far to see what is happening already. But if we cross the line, we will regret it: dead oceans, failed crops, mass extinction, mass forced migration, wildfires, thousands of flooded coastal cities, dirty air, no chocolate. Not great!

November 2015. A thrown out Dutch magazine accidentally finds itself on a garbage dump in an African city. A tired young boy is about to end his day job of sweeping scrap.


November 2014. For a Dutch magazine, Dr. Monk reviewed a little book about the environment that former Minister Jacqueline Cramer is about to publish. In it, she describes the different wake-up calls that we've seen over the last couple of decades. 

Anansi and the Future of International Cooperation

Dr. Monk was asked to write a column for OneWorld magazine, about the future of international cooperation. We found that future in an old story about a spider. Ananse is the name, or Anansi, depending on which side of the ocean you met him. He is a witty trickster and West-African god of all knowledge of stories. Born in Ghana, he came along on the slave ships to the Caribbean to become an important folk character. And also to the States, where he somehow evolved into Aunt Nancy. This story is about a pot of wisdom:
